it’s been a while since i read a good film essay and i really enjoyed this! i did always take the ending to imply that because of bateman’s mental state it’s up to the audience to determine which crimes happened, or if any ever happened at all

That's definitely an interesting and totally valid take! How I understood it was that Bateman did commit all of the crimes, but since his father was the head of the company, the lawyer protected him and feigned ignorance, showing how powerful people can get away with anything in the capitalist system we live in.
